Handmade Copper Trays by Moda Bakır — Authentic Turkish Copper Craftsmanship
Moda Bakır is a family-run copper workshop based in Kahramanmaraş, Turkey, with over 40 years of hands-on coppersmithing experience passed down through generations. Every copper tray in our collection is shaped, hammered, and finished by hand in our own workshop — never mass-produced, never copper-plated. When you order from Moda Bakır, you are buying directly from the makers, not a reseller.
Handmade Copper Trays for Serving, Decoration & Interior Design
Our copper tray collection covers a wide range of styles: hammered copper trays, hand-engraved copper trays, large copper serving trays, round and rectangular copper trays, copper serving platters, and copper trays with handles. Each piece is designed to work as both a functional serving tool and a decorative accent — for daily coffee and tea service, festive entertaining, or as a standalone piece of wall or table décor.
Serving & entertaining. Choose a large copper tray for hosting, a round copper serving tray for a classic table setting, or a compact tray for everyday coffee and breakfast service. Our copper bar trays and copper drinks trays are built for cocktail and beverage service, while our rectangular and antique-finish platters suit more formal presentations.
Home & décor. Many customers use our trays as copper coffee table trays or vintage-style wall accents in farmhouse, rustic, and classic interiors. The natural patina that develops over time only adds to their character — it's part of owning real copper, not a flaw.
Plants & entryway. Our copper plant trays and large copper plant trays make an elegant base for indoor greenery and double as humidity trays to help maintain moisture around potted plants. For entryways, our copper boot trays and copper shoe trays add a warm, practical touch.
Built to Last: Thickness, Materials & Food Safety
Two questions matter most when choosing a copper tray, and we get asked both often — so here are straight answers:
How thick should a copper tray be? Our trays are hand-hammered from 1 mm–2 mm solid copper sheet, thicker than most factory-made alternatives. Thicker copper resists warping and denting, holds its shape for decades, and gives every piece a substantial, heirloom-quality feel rather than a flimsy, mass-produced one.
Is it safe to serve food on a copper tray? Yes. Trays intended for direct food contact are finished with a food-safe tin lining (kalaylı) on the interior surface, which is the traditional and safe way to use copper for serving. Purely decorative or wall-display pieces are left in raw copper and are not intended for direct food contact — we note this on each product page so you know exactly what you're buying.

Caring for Your Copper Tray
- Hand wash only. Copper trays should not go in the dishwasher — wash gently by hand with a soft sponge and mild soap.
- Tarnish is normal. Copper naturally darkens and develops patina over time; this is part of its character, not damage. Shine can be restored with a standard copper polish whenever you prefer a brighter look.
- Hot use. Copper conducts heat well and is safe for warm servings, but the tray's outer surface can get hot — handle with care during and right after use.
- Storage. Keep dry after washing to slow natural tarnishing, especially in humid climates.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a copper tray safe for serving food? Yes, as long as the surface in contact with food is tin-lined (kalaylı), which is how our serving trays are made. Decorative-only pieces are marked separately.
Can I put a copper tray in the dishwasher? No. Hand washing with a soft sponge is recommended to protect the finish and the copper itself.
Will my copper tray change colour over time? Yes — copper is a living material and will develop a natural patina. It can be polished back to a bright shine at any time.
What size copper tray should I choose? Small trays (around 10–12 in / 27–30 cm) suit coffee and breakfast service; large trays (16 in / 40 cm and above) work best for hosting, buffets, and statement décor.
Do you ship to the US, Canada, the UK, and Europe? Yes, Moda Bakır ships worldwide, including the USA, Canada, the UK, and across Europe, directly from our workshop in Turkey.
Frequently Asked Questions
Copper thickness is the most critical factor in determining the performance, durability, and value of your copperware. Here is why it matters:
-
Superior Performance: Thicker copper (typically 1 mm to 2 mm) provides more consistent heat distribution. This is essential for preventing "hot spots" when serving warm dishes and ensures that your tray performs reliably every time.
-
Structural Integrity: Thicker copper is significantly more resistant to warping, denting, or bending. While mass-produced, thin alternatives may lose their shape over time, a thick, artisan-crafted tray is built to be a robust, heirloom-quality piece that lasts for generations.
-
Artisan Quality: The thickness is a direct indicator of the quality of the raw material used. A thicker piece feels substantial and balanced, reflecting the high-end craftsmanship expected from genuine, handmade copper.
At Moda Bakır, we prioritize optimal thickness in all our designs to ensure that every handcrafted tray offers the perfect balance of professional performance and artisan elegance. When you invest in thicker copper, you are choosing a piece built to serve you for a lifetime.
Yes. A tin-lined copper serving tray is food safe and suitable for serving meals, desserts, fruits, and snacks. The food-safe tin lining prevents direct contact between food and copper, making it a safe and traditional choice for everyday serving.
Yes. Wash your copper serving tray by hand with warm water, mild soap, and a soft sponge. Dry it immediately after washing to help prevent water spots and stains. Avoid dishwashers, abrasive cleaners, and steel wool. To restore the shine, gently rub the surface with a mixture of lemon juice and baking soda or lemon and salt, then rinse and dry thoroughly.
A real copper serving tray has the natural color and weight of solid copper and often features handcrafted hammer marks. Over time, it develops a natural patina unless polished. You can also use a magnet—pure copper is not magnetic, so a magnet should not stick to the copper surface.
